Database Programs Database occupations are predicted to maintain their strong job growth over the next few years. Employers continue to seek individuals who combine strong technical ability with good business skills, can think logically, and are good communicators. Because they often deal with a number of tasks simultaneously, the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail also is important.

Bellevue College’s database classes have been designed by database experts to provide hands-on experience with the most current database products. The classes emphasize learning by doing and utilize hands-on exercises and labs to teach the skills most in demand in the workplace. Bellevue College’s instructors are experienced professionals currently working in the field. Classes may be taken individually, or as part of a Database Certificate Program.

Database Certificate Programs

Bellevue College offers three Database certificates:
  • Database Administrator
  • Database Developer
  • Database Business Intelligence Analyst
Database Administrators design, build, and manage effective database systems. The field is projected to be one of the fastest growing occupations over the next six years. The Database Administrator Certificate Program prepares students to perform maintenance tasks, such as back up and restore a database, integrate data from various sources, troubleshoot problems, implement security, ensure database availability and performance, and coordinate activities with network and Web administrators.

Database Developers design and create databases and programs that control how users interact with those databases. Without such programs, a database can be compromised, resulting in data loss or corruption. The Database Developer Certificate Program prepares students to design and build efficient database structures, design and write effective database control programs, assure data integrity, handle errors, optimize queries, test databases and programs, communicate with client applications, and prevent malicious attacks.

Database Business Intelligence (BI) Analysts organize a company's operational data into formats that can be queried using BI analysis tools. The resulting reports show trends and patterns that can help a company make better business decisions. The Database Business Intelligence Analyst Certificate Program prepares students to design and create data warehouses and OLAP cubes, use BI analysis tools to query data, use MDX to query OLAP cubes, and create reports based on queries you create.

Each of the Bellevue College Database Certificate Programs was designed with the input of industry professionals to target the skills employers value most. Database experts currently working in the field teach the classes. You can start any time you like and complete at your own pace, taking as few as one to two classes a week. Each program can be completed in as few as 18 months or as long as three years.
